Some Hopes for 2022

As 2021 ends, and 2022 is about to begin, with the COVID pandemic seemingly returning back to the way things were a year ago, there are a few things I can at least hope for in the New Year.

The first would, of course, be that the virus somehow becomes more controlled, which would likely be for a greater share of the population getting vaccinated and boosted. A positive development today was the announcement that the FDA would likely recommend boosters for 12 to 15 year-olds. I think it’s also important for more progress to be made on getting to vaccine to younger children (6 months to 5 year-olds). The approval of two anti-viral medications, in pill form, recently, is a very good thing too, I think. In the current situation, I’d hope for even wider and easier availability of N-95 and KN-95 masks, though the resistance of some people in some places to wearing them remains a major problem.

As we approach the 1 year anniversary of the January 6,2021 attempt by the Trumpists to overthrow the U.S. Government, I’m glad that the House Committee continues to do its work, and, from what I’ve read, has a plan and a time-line to issue a major report on what happened, and act to hold the perpetrators, hopefully including Donald Trump, responsible. I continue to believe that the worst possible occurrence for our country would be for Trump to be re-elected as President in 2024, and fervently hope that the House committee’s work will be a big factor in preventing that from happening.

Last, but not least for me, I was elated to see the successful launch of the rocket carrying the James Webb Space Telescope on Christmas day, and hope that the rest of the complicated process of getting it to its place in space and setting it up comes off without a hitch. As someone who’s been thrilled, over many years, by the photos from the Hubble Space Telescope, I can’t wait to see new pictures from the Webb, which is three times as powerful, I think. The distant objects in space it will find will be amazing to see and may change the way we think about the Universe.

As is usually the case for me, I think it’s good to have hopes, and to be thankful when things turn out okay,

Happy, healthy New Year to everybody!

  1. Thank you, George! I agree with all the above. One important addition is that the House Select Committee will be having public hearings, which-I hope—will serve to awaken docile Americans to the Enemy Within.

I join you and return to you your wishes for 2022!
